New Mexico Sky Again

New Mexico sky

I always say it’s the air, right? Well, it’s true. Here’s what it looks like. Monsoonal skies all afternoon long. Cloudy, cool—near 70°F—with rain falling overhead (according to the radar) that never touches the ground. Hasn’t yet today at this location, anyway. Very quiet, too. There’s a rodeo in town. Is that where everyone is? Or at Solarfest? Not that we’re complaining. The peacefulness is very restorative. We’re eating weird stuff as we empty the cabinets post-trip. Nobody wants to go grocery shopping yet! I don’t mind, though. It’s a small price to pay for gentle re-entry.

    You are truly blessed.

Another Taos sky moment (when the clouds are “just” right).

Most places we went on our trip were beautiful—Iowa is very green—but nothing is really like this.

“New Mexico rain when my mind starts to roam…” There’s a version of that song I learned the first time I spent time in New Mexico, at Philmont. By the end of that 10-day trek, I understood what the lyrics meant. As do you…”if I ain’t happy here, then I ain’t happy nowhere…”

It was always only me and all the things I’d do to hide the fact. Nothing like a trip to “civilization” to sharpen the point!

Most people live where the land is barren and not very pretty and go to the mountains to remember God’s land on vacation. You do the opposite. She’s right you are blessed. You get to see it daily. A trip always makes you glad to be home. It is in the 90’s where I am and I would welcome those clouds. Glad you made it back safe!

Our hosts in Dubuque (my wife’s sister and brother-in-law) were discussing their planned late September trip to Rocky Mountain National Park in Estes Park, Colorado, where their grown-up kids would meet them. At first I was envious, but then remembered exactly what you say. 🙂
